Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm Jr rides the pine amid 8-for-48 slump
The New York Yankees are on a four-game losing streak after falling 3-2 on Monday to the Baltimore Orioles. They were swept in the previous series against the Milwaukee Brewers, and the offense was a mess. On Tuesday, with Trevor Rogers on the hill for Baltimore, the Yankees are giving Jazz Chisholm Jr the day off.

The Yankees’ lineup has Amed Rosario hitting fifth and playing second base. This is just the fourth time Rosario has played second this year, as most of his starts have come at third base. Paul Goldschmidt is playing first base, strengthening that position for the reserve Rosario. Ben Rice will serve as the designated hitter.
Chisholm is 8-for-48 in his last 13 games, a paltry .167 batting average. His OPS is a dreadful .491 in that stretch and only at .604 for the season. After setting a 50-homer, 50-steal goal for this season, Chisholm has been disappointing for the Yankees this season.
Even if Chisholm was playing well coming into this game, Rogers would be a tough matchup for him. The Yankees’ second baseman has a career OPS of .655 against lefties, compared to .800 against right-handed pitchers. With a contract year approaching, it would be great for him to improve that mark against left-handed pitchers. But he is not going to help the Yankees by playing on Tuesday.
The other infield news for the Yankees on Tuesday is the return of Anthony Volpe. Jose Caballero is on the injured list, and the former first-round pick is back after a stint in the minor leagues. Still, Max Schuemann is starting at shortstop while Volpe rides the bench.
The Yankees look to take their second series of the season against the Orioles. They swept Baltimore in a four-game series in The Bronx earlier this month. Will Warren will take the hill for the Bombers against Rogers.
