Yankees’ Aaron Boone shares honest thoughts on Ben Rice, Cam Schlittler’s 2026 performance
Things are going well in the Bronx, as the New York Yankees are thriving with a 30-20 record, while competing for the division title. Notably, manager Aaron Boone discussed Ben Rice and Cam Schlittler and their 2026 performances, according to a piece by Chris Kirschner of The Athletic.
“To see them both playing at this high of a level, I can’t say I’m surprised. Now, it’s impossible to maybe expect one to be the MVP and one to be the Cy Young, but I’m not surprised. I don’t think any of us are surprised at their performance,” Boone told Kirschner.
Schlittler has had stellar outings throughout the season and is currently 6-2 with a 1.50 ERA across 11 starts. Additionally, he has produced three straight quality starts, allowing a combined three earned runs over those starts. Looking at the grand scheme of his stats, it’s even better. Schlittler has reached the sixth inning in every start with the exception of a two-start stretch in April. Yet, he only allowed three earned runs in each of those starts.
Ben Rice has also been amazing, producing elite numbers in his third season. Currently, he is batting .289 with 16 home runs, 33 RBIs, and 36 runs. If Rice keeps the pace he is on, he could reach 52 home runs, 107 RBIs, and 117 runs. That would be unheard of, especially after he hit .255 with 26 home runs, 65 RBIs, and 74 runs last season. Rice is a major reason why the Yankees rank sixth in on-base percentage, fourth in runs, first in home runs, and third in slugging percentage.
If both can continue to produce at a high level, the Yanks could be a major threat to win their 28th ring.
