Dodgers activate 2025 trade deadline addition off IL

The Los Angeles Dodgers have activated right-handed pitcher Brock Stewart from the injured list ahead of Wednesday’s series finale against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. To create space on the active roster, Los Angeles designated fellow right-hander Jonathan Hernandez for assignment.

Stewart, 34, returns after missing 18 games because of shoulder discomfort. His last appearance came July 28 against the Seattle Mariners, and he was placed on the injured list three days later. The veteran has spent a lot of time on the IL this season, also missing the first 36 games while recovering from shoulder surgery and another 40 games because of bone spurs in his left foot.

Despite those absences, Stewart has been effective when available. In 14 games this season, he has logged a 2.45 ERA and 2.09 xERA over 14 2/3 innings, striking out 14, walking five and recording one save. He did not make a rehab appearance with Triple-A Oklahoma City or another Dodgers affiliate before returning.

Stewart originally joined Los Angeles after being selected in the sixth round of the 2014 First Year Player Draft out of Illinois State University. He has appeared in the majors for the Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins and owns a career 10-6 record with a 4.34 ERA and 204 strikeouts in 201 1/3 innings.

Hernandez, meanwhile, was designated for assignment for the third time this season. The 30-year-old last pitched Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers, throwing three scoreless innings in a 6-2 Los Angeles loss.

In 16 appearances for the Dodgers this season, Hernandez accumulated a 5.68 ERA and 4.33 xERA, with 22 strikeouts and 13 walks across 25 1/3 innings. The right-hander has spent parts of six major-league seasons with Los Angeles, the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners, compiling a career 13-8 record with a 4.49 ERA and 172 strikeouts in 178 1/3 innings.

The roster move also opens a 40-man roster spot for Tyler Glasnow, who is expected to return from the 60-day injured list next week if his rehabilitation progresses as planned.
