Heat rumors: Miami ‘kicked around’ idea of adding recent Bulls, Suns center

The Miami Heat made one of the bigger acquisitions during the offseason, trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo. Since then, they haven’t made that many moves to round out the team, but rumors claim that they’re still looking around to add talent.

The latest player they have been rumored to have interest in is Nick Richards, as he’s been working out at the arena, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

“Miami has kicked around the idea of adding veteran center Nick Richards — who has been working out with Heat players at Kaseya Center while dressed in Heat gear — but there had been no Heat offer and no deal as of midday Wednesday, per a source. Free agents can work out at the Heat’s facility if they sign a waiver. Richards, who is 6-11, averaged 5.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 14.6 minutes in 48 games and six starts for Phoenix and Chicago last season,” Jackson wrote.

Richards would be a nice addition to the Heat’s frontcourt, especially after they had to trade away Kel’el Ware in the Antetokounmpo deal. He’s shown throughout his career that he can be a serviceable backup center, and that’s what the Heat are looking for.

Outside of their center depth, the Heat have also been rumored to have interest in adding another shooter to the team, and Klay Thompson is the one name who continues to come up, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.

“Among the few suitors with interest in Thompson, the Miami Heat have long stood out as the team with the most motivation to add one of the league’s all-time best 3-point shooters. After securing a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo earlier this offseason, the Heat have been seeking ways to continue adding perimeter-scoring threats,” Siegel wrote.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Heat end up making a move on Thompson, or somebody on the free agent market.
