Wings star Paige Bueckers let off hook for technical foul vs. Dream

The Dallas Wings are still finding their footing in 2026, as they try to establish themselves as playoff contenders with their young core led by Paige Bueckers. There are always growing pains with teams that are led by young players, and the Wings experienced some more of that on Friday night.

Bueckers and the rest of the offense had an extremely quiet night on the road in an 86-69 loss to the Atlanta Dream. It was a frustrating night for the entire team, and Bueckers picked up a technical foul during the third quarter for clapping in the direction of Dream guard Indya Nivar.

Many fans disagreed with the technical foul call, and Bueckers herself showed plenty of displeasure on the court when the whistle came.

Now, the WNBA is walking back the controversial call. The technical foul assessed to Bueckers has been rescinded, per Annie Costabile of The Athletic.

It was a nightmare game overall for Bueckers and the rest of her Dallas teammates. The former No. 1 overall pick finished with just seven points on 3-of-13 shooting to go with seven assists and three turnovers. Bueckers’ backcourt-mate, Arike Ogunbowale, had an even worse showing. She scored just two points on 1-of-11 shooting.

For the Wings to take the strides that they want to take this season and compete for a playoff spot, they will have to get much better production from their two star guards than nine points on 4-of-24 shooting. Azzi Fudd is getting her feet wet off the bench and Awak Kuier is contributing nicely with the reserve unit, even adding 16 points in Friday’s loss. Odyssey Sims and Jessica Sheppard have also been quality contributors this season, which gives this Dallas team a solid floor.

That loss dropped Dallas to 3-3 on the season. The Wings will have a chance to get back in thew win column and get bounce-back games from both Bueckers and Ogunbowale on Sunday against the New York Liberty. Tip-off of that game will be at 3:30 p.m. EST at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
