Wings’ Azzi Fudd makes No. 1 pick statement with huge 3rd quarter vs. Liberty
With the Dallas Wings taking on the New York Liberty on Sunday, the one standout of the game is No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, Azzi Fudd. While Fudd’s role with the Wings in not starting has been talked about tremendously, her outing on Sunday could be the start of an impressive streak, especially in how she played in the third quarter.
Aside from having a great game, Fudd dominated in the third quarter, scoring 17 points while showing off her three-point shooting ability, hitting on five out of seven attempts from beyond the arc.

The production in the third period by Fudd has been put into perspective in respect to the game, as the Liberty scored 17 points in the whole frame, the same amount that the UConn product had in the quarter.
“Azzi Fudd had the same scoring output (17 points) as the entire Liberty team in the 3rd quarter. The Wings outscored the Liberty 28-17 in the third frame,” Annie Costabile wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Wings’ Azzi Fudd impressing against the Liberty
Fudd’s game had seen her usage go up as the seven three-point attempts in the third quarter were more than she had in each game so far. ESPN’s Alexa Philippou would note that the 17 points are “tied for second-most by a rookie in a quarter since the league went to quarters.”
“Azzi Fudd’s 17 points in the third frame are tied for the second-most by a rookie in a quarter since the league went to quarters in 2006. She had not scored 17 points in a game in the first five games of her career,” Philippou wrote.
By the end of the contest with the Wings beating the Liberty on Sunday, 91-76, Fudd would finish the contest with 24 points on nine of 15 shooting from the field, six of 12 from three-point range. To go along with three assists, three steals, two rebounds, and two blocks, Fudd had a career game; as one could imagine, the best is yet to come for the rookie.
Fudd looks to keep it going for Dallas with the next game on Thursday against the Las Vegas Aces.
