Will Venable gets brutally honest on White Sox after Cubs series
The Chicago White Sox earned a 3-0 victory on Wednesday to avoid getting swept by the Chicago Cubs. Pete Crow-Armstrong led the Cubs to back-to-back wins on Monday and Tuesday, but the Sox bounced back on Wednesday afternoon. The White Sox have been one of the biggest surprises in baseball this season and they played a competitive brand of baseball against a talented Cubs ball club. Will Venable was asked what he learned about his team following the series, via Scott Merkin of MLB.com.
“I don’t know if there’s anything that we learned that we didn’t already know,” Venable said. “I think there’s a confident group, we believe that we’re a really good team, and I think we showed that all three of these games.”
It was an exciting series between the Chicago teams. Both ball clubs are good this year, as the Sox lead the American League Central with a 66-60 record while the 74-54 Cubs lead the National League Wild Card and are in second place in the NL Central.
However, the Cubs were expected to play well. Meanwhile, the White Sox were expected to continue their rebuild this season. Instead, they have shattered expectations and have emerged as a legitimate contender in the AL. In all reality, the American League is rather weak this year. Still, this White Sox ball club has performed well and they should not be overlooked moving forward.
They will attempt to build off of Wednesday’s victory in their game against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday afternoon.
