Why Mets’ Jorge Polanco said there’s ‘no rush’ to return from injury
New York Mets infielder Jorge Polanco is recovering from an Achilles injury. The Mets have dealt with injury concerns throughout the season, but Polanco is not rushing to return to the field. The infielder wants to be able to help his team, which is something he feels he can do better if he’s feeling “good.”
“I want to get back, but there is no rush,” Polanco said recently, via SNY Mets. “I want to get back when I feel good. That way I can help the team. I don’t do anything if I just get back still feeling bad. So there is no rush.
“The main thing is to get better and to get healthy so I can really help the team.”
Polanco, 32, is currently in his first season with New York. He recorded a strong .821 OPS to go along with 26 home runs last year with the Seattle Mariners. He was hitting just .179/.246/.286 across 14 games in 2026 before landing on the injured list. Polanco is hoping to improve his performance once he returns from injury.
For now, his injury return timeline is uncertain. The Mets will continue to monitor and provide updates on his injury status as they are made available.
Overall, the Mets are 23-33 and in last place in the National League East. They have been one of the worst teams in baseball this year. The ball club needs to turn the season around as soon as possible to avoid having to sell at the trade deadline.
The Mets’ next game is scheduled for Friday night against the Miami Marlins at 7:10 PM EST.
