This Dodgers reliever could be difference-maker as playoffs draw near

The Los Angeles Dodgers have hit some turbulence recently, losing the first two games of their series against the Atlanta Braves this week. The Dodgers are also dealing with some injuries, with closer Edwin Diaz looking to return soon as he deals with a neck ailment.

Now, Dodgers insider David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports has dropped the latest update on another bullpen member who is working his way back from injury in the minor leagues.

“Blake Treinen made his 5th rehab appearance this month. Treinen hasn’t allowed a run and has 8 K’s/1BB,” reported Vassegh on X, formerly Twitter.

Treinen has been dealing with an elbow injury that has kept him out of the lineup since the middle of June, but his impressive stats in his rehab starts would indicate that a return could be coming sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers have also dealt with other injuries in the pitching department, with Shohei Ohtani missing a significant number of starts due to a knee issue, among various other injuries.

Last year was largely the same story for Los Angeles during the regular season, although the team was able to get healthy enough just in time for the playoffs to go on a run to a second straight World Series.

Despite their rough patch over the last couple of weeks, the Dodgers are still the clear favorites to win a third straight World Series this year, and is opponent no team will want to face in a playoff setting, even if they aren’t fully healthy.

Los Angeles will wrap up its series vs the Braves on Thursday evening in Atlanta.
