Tom Brady secretly makes life-altering investment in Fernando Mendoza before Raiders’ QB decision

Tom Brady has no problem blurring the line between being an NFL broadcaster and Las Vegas Raiders minority owner.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion also has no problem publicly backing No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza before the Raiders’ rookie head coach has made a Week 1 starting quarterback decision.

“I need this,” Brady said in a video showing an elusive 1-of-1 card. “Today, I found it and I got it.”

The former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB was referring to a super-pricey Mendoza rookie card that is so expensive it’s hard to put a price on it.

“It’s a life-altering amount of money for most people, if not all people,” Chris Costa, one of Brady’s business partners, recently told the California Post.

What makes the Mendoza Topps rookie card so unique is the signature on the front.

In sharp blue ink, Mendoza’s autograph is written across a photo of him wearing a suit and Raiders cap, while holding up the No. 1 symbol with his right hand.

Beneath the signature, ‘My 1st NFL Auto’ is written.

Fans were split on Brady becoming the owner of a rare card that could belong in a fan’s collection.

“Glad Tom Brady is getting all his cards, so the young boy who dreams of collecting can’t,” one fan wrote. “Good on you @tombrady — way to ruin some kid’s dreams.”

“Talk bout pressure!” a second fan posted. “If the goat is collecting … then you know you gotta step up. Let’s go Fernando!”

But it could prove to be a sound long-term investment if the ‘perfect’ Indiana star becomes a Super Bowl-winning franchise QB for the rebuilding Raiders.

“Tom basically raised his hand and was like, ‘I want that card,’” Costa said. “‘I need that card.’ “

Veteran Kirk Cousins is expected to be named the Raiders’ Week 1 starter.

But Mendoza has a $57.2 million guaranteed contract and could be Las Vegas’ starting QB into the next decade.

After struggling in his second preseason game, the NCAA national champion spent this week preparing for the Raiders’ final preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Rookie head coach Klint Kubiak isn’t ready to hand the ball yet to Mendoza for Week 1.

But Brady spent a ton of cash on his super-rare rookie card because Las Vegas plans to win a Super Bowl with the 22-year-old QB from Indiana.

“He’s got a great family and he’s coming to a great environment for success. So I figured you’ve got to invest in it, and it’s going to hopefully bring some good luck to Las Vegas.”
