Warriors’ Steve Kerr makes election rigging joke over Jayson Tatum Olympic conspiracy theories

Steve Kerr is currently in limbo as his contract with the Golden State Warriors has expired. He has acknowledged that it is probably in everyone’s best interest to move on after the Warriors failed to advance to the playoffs.

Kerr has not mentioned retirement, and he has often said he likes to be around the game. He is a proven winner, winning nine titles as a player and a coach, including four championships in Golden State.

He also won a gold medal with Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics, although it was marred by controversy because of his benching of Jayson Tatum.

The issue was brought up in an interview with The New Yorker’s Charles Bethea, who mentioned that conspiracy theories claimed that Kerr was “trying to foment discord” among the Boston Celtics.

Ever with the tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, the 60-year-old Kerr had a clever response.

“Yeah, the 2020 election was rigged too,” said Kerr, who has always been outspoken about politics and his opposition to President Donald Trump.

The Warriors beat the Celtics in the NBA Finals in 2022.

Kerr has explained that benching Tatum was a tough decision because the six-time All-Star was playing the same position as LeBron James and Kevin Durant. He has noted that finding minutes for Tatum was a “math problem.”

“We needed guys who were on-ball defenders, facilitators, who would make Steph (Curry) and LeBron and Kevin better. Jayson wasn’t really suited for that role,” said Kerr.

“That’s the whole point of USA Basketball: Take 12 of the best players on earth and try to make it work.”

Tatum did not hide his displeasure with his role on Team USA, but he stressed that he was professional about it and has maintained his respect for Kerr.
