Eagles reporter reveals insane Jalen Hurts-Josh Allen preference
During the 2026 NFL offseason, one of the biggest questions fans debated was where Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts falls in the pantheon of current signal-callers.
To some, the second-round pick out of Oklahoma is clearly good enough to win Super Bowl MVP for a nearly flawless performance against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, but to others? That Super Bowl success had more to do with the team Howie Roseman put around him, with Hurts consistently struggling to play much above average if the conditions surrounding him aren’t perfect.
Discussing Hurts’ play ahead of Week 1 on 94WIP, Elliott Shorr-Park didn’t just call the Eagles’ quarterback good, great, or even elite, but actually claimed that Philadelphia would be better off with QB1 under center over Josh Allen, as he fits what Nick Sirianni wants to run to a T.
“So when do I think Jalen could put up the numbers Josh Allen does? Probably not, right? But do I think Josh Allen, if he came here, could do everything Jalen does? I think that would be hard for Josh Allen,” Shorr-Park explained. “I think the amount of restraint it takes for Jalen to do what he does would be really hard, I believe that to my core. Do you think Josh Allen they are going to the Super Bowl twice in three years?”
Josh Allen is awesome — but could he accomplish everything with the Eagles that Jalen Hurts has accomplished?
I don’t think so. I don’t think any QB is stepping into Hurts seat and winning more than he has over the last 5 years pic.twitter.com/vtMXdHfLnI

No, understandably, this hot take drove ESP’s co-host, Spike Eskin, up a wall, suggesting that the Eagles would never lose with Allen as their quarterback, but Shorr-Park doubled down, noting why he feels so strongly about his opinion.
“He does turn the ball over quite a bit in that game that Jalen beat him, and part of the reason they won that game is because Josh Allen turned the ball over…” Shorr-Park explained.
“I don’t think they could accomplish what they’ve accomplished with Jalen with Josh Allen. I don’t, because I think Jalen is perfect at what they want to do, and the way they do it is how you win. They do it that way because they win games that, oh my god. It’s true this is the same conversation as last week: 39- 3 when they win the turnover battle. It is the most important stat, and Jalen is elite at it.”
Is ESP on the money? Eh, probably not, as Allen is arguably the best quarterback in the NFL and would likely shine in every single offense in the league regardless of their scheme or personnel. And yet, when it comes to wins and losses, Hurts really is in a class of his own, which is why Shorr-Park is able to have an opinion in the first place, even if some, nay, most would react to it just like Eskin.
