Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s injury gets worrisome update after Yankees beat Rockies

The New York Yankees’ victory against the Colorado Rockies at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday could prove to be costly after Jazz Chisholm Jr. failed to finish the game due to a thumb injury.

Chisholm was taken out at the top of the ninth inning and was replaced by Jose Caballero. The Yankees won, 5-3, to improve to 82-62 and clinch their 34th straight winning season.

ESPN’s Jorge Castillo noted that the 28-year-old second baseman “jammed his right thumb with a headfirst slide into second base” in the eighth inning. He added that manager Aaron Boone gave a brief yet worrisome update about Chisholm.

“Aaron Boone said the thumb was ‘numb’ and Chisholm could undergo tests tomorrow,” wrote Castillo.

Chisholm had two hits in four at-bats against the Rockies.

The two-time All-Star could not afford to sit out for an extended period, as he is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.

In 134 games, he has racked up 107 hits, 19 home runs, 55 RBIs, and a career-worst 153 strikeouts.

Last month, Chisholm grabbed attention when he clapped back at a radio announcer for the Boston Red Sox for calling him a “bush league player.” WEEI’s Will Flemming made the comment after Chisholm stole two bases in the Yankees’ win against the Red Sox, 16-1.
