Victor Wembanyama sought out Gregg Popovich amid 2-2 series with T-Wolves
The San Antonio Spurs return home after splitting both road games against the Minnesota Timberwolves in their Western Conference Semifinal series. The Spurs are hoping to take control of the series, which is tied at two games apiece, and upon the team’s return home, Victor Wembanyama sought out a familiar face in former head coach Gregg Popovich.
With Victor Wembanyama having let his emotions get the better of him in Game 4 following his flagrant foul ejection, perhaps there was no one better than Gregg Popovich to help him get back on track as the Spurs head into the pivotal Game 5.
Wembanyama played for Popovich during his rookie season, and for the beginning of last season before the Hall of Fame coach stepped away in November 2024 following a medical issue. But even in Popovich’s retirement, he’s still been a regular at Spurs practices, imparting his wisdom and experience onto the team as they look to get back to the championship contender status they held during most of Popovich’s tenure.
With a Wolves team coming into Game 5 brimming with confidence, the Spurs will need a strong game from their star in Wembanyama to retake control of the series.
During the Spurs’ playoff run thus far, Wembanyama is averaging 19.6 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 4.4 blocked shots with splits of 53.4 percent shooting from the field, 35.3 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 87.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
Before his ejection in Game 4, Wembanyama had four points, four rebounds and one assist in 12 minutes. But prior to that in Game 3, Wembanyama finished with 39 points, 15 rebounds, one assist, one steal and five blocked shots.
