Twins’ Byron Buxton gets encouraging injury update despite not playing vs. Brewers
The Minnesota Twins have been struggling much of the season, but they are situated in the lowly American League Central and they are in contention. Even though the Twins have a 20-24 record, they are just 3 1/2 games behind the first place Cleveland Guardians and just 1 1/2 games out of a Wild Card position.
As they attempt to make up ground this weekend in a home series against the Milwaukee Brewers, they don’t have slugger Byron Buxton in the lineup. He is sitting out his second consecutive game with a hip injury, but Twins manager Derek Shelton does not anticipate that Buxton will need much time to get back in the lineup. The manager told the media that Buxton is trending in the right direction.
If the Twins are going to have any success this season, they need to have Buxton in the lineup. He is their main source of power and he is one of the leading home run hitters in the American League. Buxton is slashing .260/.319/.580 with 15 home runs and 23 runs batted in.
Buxton is the only Twins hitter in double figures in the home run category. Ryan Jeffers is second on the team with six long balls, while Brooks Lee has five.
The 32-year-old Buxton has been troubled by both serious and nagging injuries at multiple points throughout his career. The hip injury is more of the nagging variety at this point.
Buxton blasted a career-high 35 home runs and drove in 83 runs last year when he played 126 games. Buxton has never played more than 140 games in any of his 12 seasons with the Twins.
