Titans’ Robert Saleh makes ‘hateful’ comment on defense after win vs. Seahawks

The Tennessee Titans pulled off a come-from-behind win against the Seattle Seahawks, 19-16, in their preseason game at Nissan Stadium on Sunday.

The Titans overcame a 13-point deficit to stay undefeated in their preseason schedule. D’Ernest Johnson scored on a two-yard touchdown, while Joey Slye made four field goals to carry Tennessee, which dug itself an early hole due to a lackadaisical start.

While they claimed the impressive victory, Titans coach Robert Saleh took note of their defensive errors, including allowing Jacardia Wright to run for a 69-yard touchdown in the first quarter, which gave Tennessee a double-digit advantage.

“Robert Saleh called the two explosive plays given up by the defense ‘hateful.’ Said he was glad the pass play happened because it showed them they have to follow basic fundamentals of pass defense,” wrote Titans reporter Terry McCormick on X.

Tennessee gave up 255 yards to Seattle, which rested its starters.

Saleh is in his first year with the Titans. He is back calling the shots after getting fired by the New York Jets in 2024. He served as an offensive consultant for the Green Bay Packers and the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers before being hired by Tennessee.

He has repeatedly espoused his defensive philosophies since joining the Titans.

“New Titans head coach Robert Saleh is already laying down the law. His golden rule? If a defensive lineman plays four snaps in a row, ‘you aren’t doing it right,'” posted WKRN News 2 anchor Julian Mininsohn on X in May.
