The ‘no brainer’ signing Raiders must make to help Fernando Mendoza
The Las Vegas Raiders could look almost brand new during the 2026 season. Vegas brought in Fernando Mendoza as their new franchise quarterback of the future. One analyst believes that the Raiders should bring in one offensive weapon to help our their young quarterback.
ESPN’s Aaron Schatz recommended one final offseason move for every NFL team in his latest article. He made a bold selection for the Raiders, imploring them to bring in Stefon Diggs as their new starting wide receiver.
“Diggs was the dependable No. 1 target who helped the Bills’ Josh Allen significantly improve,” Schatz wrote. “Then he was the dependable No. 1 target who helped the Patriots’ Drake Maye significantly improve. So why wait for Fernando Mendoza’s second season to get him a dependable No. 1 target who can help him significantly improve?”
Diggs proved that he can still play ball during the 2025 season. He hauled in 85 receptions for 1,013 receiving yards and four touchdowns with the Patriots. But off-the-field issues forced the Patriots to release Diggs earlier this offseason.
Diggs is clearly not a perfect wide receiver. However, Schatz argues that Las Vegas is in no position to be picky about wide receiver talent.
“The Las Vegas receiver depth chart is severely lacking, and Diggs was still good enough to finish second among wideouts last season in ESPN Analytics’ receiver score,” Schatz added. “This one seems like a no-brainer.”
The Raiders currently have Jalen Nailor, Tre Tucker, and Jack Bech as their starting receivers ahead of the 2026 season.
Ultimately, it is difficult to know for sure whether or not gambling on Diggs would be a smart move. But if any team is willing to take a chance on Diggs, it could be a team with nothing to lose like Las Vegas.
