The lesson Ducks’ Joel Quenneville learned after Game 3 loss to Golden Knights

The Anaheim Ducks got shellacked by the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 3 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs series Friday. Vegas defeated Anaheim, 6-2. Ducks head coach Joel Quenneville is trying to look at the bright side, as he believes his club learned a lesson.

“There’s a lesson to take out of today’s game, and it’s only going to get harder every single game,” Quenneville said, per NHL.com. “Let’s get ready to go to war.”

Vegas winger Mitch Marner burned Anaheim in Game 3. He earned himself a natural hat trick, scoring three goals in the game. Anaheim now trails the Golden Knights 2-1 in the series.

“It wasn’t a great start,” Ducks forward Alex Killorn said. “They score in the first five minutes and then they get a PK goal and then that goal on the power play with five seconds left. It’s tough to win a game when you put yourself in spots like that.”

Marner and his club had an answer every single time the Ducks looked like they might try to gain momentum. Vegas jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the game, before Anaheim finally scored.

“I try to always be an energizer guy,” Marner said. “A guy that goes out there and brings a lot of passion and energy to games. Obviously, I always want the puck on my tape. I want to try to make the plays.”

Things were so bad for the Ducks that they had to make a change at goalie. Ville Husso came in the game to replace Lukas Dostal. Dostal had allowed three goals on eight shots in the contest. He was replaced at the start of the second period.

Anaheim needs to find a way to regroup. The Ducks took Game 2 in an impressive 3-1 victory. Game 4 of the Ducks-Golden Knights series is on Sunday.
