Dodgers’ Kris Bubic gets recovery timeline update after Royals trade

Though the Los Angeles Dodgers’ activity at the trade deadline this past Monday will be headlined by acquiring starting pitcher Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers, the team would add another arm to the bullpen, though he is still recovering from an injury. As the Dodgers traded for Kansas City Royals relief pitcher Kris Bubic, there was an understanding that he was on the 60-day injured list (IL), though the latest update hints at a timeline.

According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, the left-handed pitcher will throw a second bullpen session on Saturday, with the plan being to “build him up for a short relief role.” The expectation is that Los Angeles has “suggested tweaks” for Bubic.

“Kris Bubic said he first dealt with a flexor strain in his forearm, then a shoulder impingement while trying to ramp back up,” Ardaya wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “He threw his first bullpen session on Sunday, will throw another tomorrow. Plan is to build him up for a short relief role. Dodgers have suggested tweaks.”

As mentioned when talking to the media, Bubic first dealt with a forearm injury that turned into a shoulder issue when trying to come back to game action for Kansas City. His last game was on May 14 against the Chicago White Sox for the Royals, and after being with the team since 2020, the team traded him to the Dodgers for right-handed pitcher Carlos Duran.

So far this season, Bubic has recorded a 4.11 ERA to go along with 51 strikeouts, a 1.23 WHIP, and a 3-2 record in nine game appearances and 50.1 innings. It remains to be seen when he makes his debut for his new team in Los Angeles.
