Exclusive: Why Matt Vasgersian is ‘thrilled’ for Phillies-Twins MLB Field of Dreams Game

The MLB Field of Dreams Game is scheduled for August 13 at the site of the “Field of Dreams” movie in Dyersville, Iowa, as the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins are set to go head-to-head this year. It has been an exciting event in the past, and the 2026 edition of the contest is highly anticipated as well. The game can be watched on Netflix, as all subscribers of the streaming service will have access to the game regardless of their subscription level. Respected MLB media personality Matt Vasgersian — who has years of experience in baseball including broadcasting games and working for MLB Network — will be part of the Netflix broadcast crew in Iowa for the matchup.

Vasgersian recently took some time to share his thoughts on the 2026 MLB Field of Dreams Game in an exclusive interview with ClutchPoints.

“I’m thrilled for this,” Vasgersian told ClutchPoints. “To do a game at what is essentially a movie set but have it be a regulation Major League Baseball standard field is a pretty cool thing, right? You’re having your cake and eating it, too. As a guy who is a little bit of a cinephile who also works and makes his living in Major League Baseball, this is just the sweet spot of things for me, the best combination I could have asked for.

“There’s a bunch of ways to look at the game, too… It’s a jewell event, it’s a spectacle, the visuals are going to be unbelievable. It’s so unique, it’s such a great viewing experience.”

The spectacle of the event stands out. Watching the game will give fans of the movie “Field of Dreams” nostalgia. Watching an MLB game with a cornfield in the background in Iowa is certainly thrilling for baseball fans.

The game itself should be exciting as well. The Phillies are once again a contender in the National League, while the Twins have upset expectations in the American League.

“You have two teams that are in contention here,” Vasgersian continued. “We didn’t know we were going to get that with the Twins on Opening Day when we knew the matchup was Philly and Minnesota. They’ve been better than advertised. I think they’re good, I think they’re real. I don’t think this is one of those illusions where they’re just going to run out of gas here any day, I think they’re going to be in it for the long haul. Really like (Twins manager) Derek Shelton a lot, like their young core, love the fact they didn’t sell anybody at the deadline this year.

“And then we know who the Phillies are… This is a team filled with super-duper stars, who got better at the deadline. They did with (Luis) Arraez. So from a baseball standpoint there’s a lot and then the novelty of playing at an actual cornfield is cool. And then there’s all the movie tie-ins. Like the house, I’ve never been there, a lot of the guys that are going have been to a Field of Dreams event before, there have only been a few of them, but the house as it stands where they apparently did a lot of the interiors as well as the exteriors, it being there is very cool.”

For Netflix, the game represents its third baseball event on the streaming service, as they previously hosted 2026 MLB Opening Night between the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants as well as the 2026 Home Run Derby.

Fans can’t wait for the game. Matt Vasgersian feels the same way.

“I can’t wait to get out there.”
