The insane 50-homer history Yankees’ Aaron Judge is vying for in 2026
Aaron Judge is once again smashing dingers at a historic rate for the New York Yankees. Judge has been in uncharted territory with his work at the plate so far in the 2026 season.
Now, Judge is on pace to enter uncharted territory when it comes to home runs, according to Talkin’ Yanks.
Judge can become the first ever player to have five 50-home run seasons. He has 15 home runs so far in just 38 games, placing him on pace for an American League record 64 dingers. It would also be the fifth time he has eclipsed 50 home runs. Judge did it for the first time in 2017, when he hit 52, but finished second in the majors in home runs. Giancarlo Stanton, then of the Miami Marlins, hit 59 that year.
In 2022, he joined the 50 home run club again, hitting an American League record 62 long balls that year. After missing the mark in 2023, he has been over 50 home runs in each of the last two seasons.
Only three players in history have hit 50 home runs in four seasons. Babe Ruth was the first, being the first man to hit 50 home runs back in 1920, setting a record with 54 dingers. He would go yard 59 times the next year, and then 60 times in 1927. In 1928, he had his fourth 50-home run season with 54. It would be 70-years until someone else reached the milestone four times in a career.
Mark McGwire would be the next to do so. His first 50-dinger season came in 1996, with the Oakland Athletics, hitting 52. He would then hit 58 between the A’s and the St. Louis Cardinals the next year. The year after that, he hit a record-breaking 70 round-tripper performance. McGwire would cap his streak of 50 home run seasons, hitting 65 in 1999.
The other man to do so was Sammy Sosa. His first season at 50 home runs was the legendary home run race season of 1998, when he knocked 66 over the wall. He would add 63 in 1999 and 50 in 2000. Finally, he hit 64 in 2001, but that season was overshadowed by Barry Bonds hitting 73, in his only 50 home run season.
Judge will look to continue his home run pace on Friday, as the Yankees visit the Milwaukee Brewers.
