Texans’ Will Anderson Jr. sends strong message on NFL playoff urgency
The Houston Texans have been a mainstay in the NFL playoffs in recent years, but they still haven’t gotten over the hump and been to a Super Bowl. In fact, under DeMeco Ryans, the Texans have still yet to make an appearance in the AFC Championship Game, so they are hungry as they prep for the 2026 season.
Houston has lost in the Divisional Round in each of the last three postseasons. First, it was the Baltimore Ravens that took the Texans down, followed by the Kansas City Chiefs. Last season, Houston was sent packing by the New England Patriots in a rainy, mucky game in Foxborough.
Now, it’s safe to sat the Texans are clearly sick of bumping their head against the same ceiling. On Thursday at OTAs, star pass rusher Will Anderson talked about the sense of urgency in the building this offseason as they try to take the next step in the postseason.
Will Anderson Jr. is locked in:
“I told the guys: ‘I’ve been here for 4 years & the last 3 years we haven’t got past the 2nd round.’ The sense of urgency in the building is high. What we’re trying to achieve is high. You can get with the program or figure it out.” pic.twitter.com/JhYp3h8fxG

“I told the guys: ‘I’ve been here for four years & the last three years we haven’t got past the second round,'” Anderson said. “The sense of urgency in the building is high. What we’re trying to achieve is high. You can get with the program or figure it out. But I want everybody to figure it out because I want everybody to be here and I know that they’re are for a reason. … How much more do you have to give? How much is your urgency going up? I think the guys have been responding really well to that.”
Houston’s playoff shortcomings are surely not the fault of Anderson’s. In six career playoff games, the former top-five pick has eight sacks and has consistently been a disruptive force for opposing offenses in those games.
Still, the Texans will need more from the rest of their roster in the postseason if they want to make it to the Super Bowl this season or in the future. CJ Stroud and the rest of the offense have struggled in those games, so the pressure will be on that group when the playoffs roll around this season.
