Tarik Skubal elbow injury update should fire up Tigers fans

Detroit Tigers star pitcher Tarik Skubal was recently placed on the IL due to an elbow injury. The Tigers are closely monitoring the situation, and recent reports have suggested he may only need to miss around six weeks. On Friday, MLB insider Jon Heyman shared another encouraging update.

“Tarik Skubal is already playing catch, barely a week out of elbow surgery. The operation to remove one loose body was arthroscopic, and he might beat initial estimates of 2 months out. 6 weeks remains possible,” Heyman reported.

Initial reports suggested that Skubal could miss two or three months. It seems like he could return before that timeline as long as no setbacks occur.

Tarik Skubal has won back-to-back American League Cy Young awards. He is arguably the best pitcher in all of MLB. Before suffering the elbow injury, Skubal had pitched to a 2.70 ERA across seven starts. He had also struck out 45 batters.

The southpaw is set to enter free agency after the 2026 campaign. Skubal could potentially receive the biggest contract ever for a pitcher. He will only increase the chances of that happening by returning soon and performing well.

Skubal does not have an official return timeline as of this story’s writing. The Tigers will continue to monitor and provide updates on his injury status.

Meanwhile, Detroit will begin a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays at home on Friday night. First pitch for the game on Friday night between the Blue Jays and Tigers is scheduled for 6:45 PM EST in Detroit.
