Stephanie White sends brutally honest message to Indiana amid inconsistent season

The Indiana Fever have had an up-and-down season, and Stephanie White looks to empower her team to turn the corner. White addressed the media on Wednesday at the Fever’s latest practice and spoke about their clutch-time victory over the Washington Mystics.

White says that her team has learned to navigate the highs and the lows of the season and are going through the process amidst the challenges.

“I think that this is a group who wants to continue to get better, who wants to continue to grow. We’re finding our way. It’s a different type of resilience than we dealt with last year, and different type of challenges than we dealt with, you know, a year ago. And so just learning how to navigate it. They work incredibly hard. They stay together. And I think growing through, um, in-game moments is gonna be part of our process.”

But White also believes that the team needs to grow in its toughness edge.

“Yeah, I think so…physically and mentally tougher. You know, being able to handle the ebbs and flows are one thing. Being able to not put yourself in position to have some of those ebbs and flows is another. I think physically at times we also get a little bit soft. And again, it’s not a collective all the time. But I think when we have one or two of those moments, being able to come together and address it in the moment and then being able to respond to it as opposed to react to situations I think is important growth process for our team.”

The Fever sit at 6-5 on the season and are currently 2-1 in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup standings following their victory over the Washington Mystics. The Fever look to continue their winning momentum as they face off against the Chicago Sky on Thursday.
