Royals get big Jac Caglianone, Maikel Garcia injury updates

The Kansas City Royals aren’t going anywhere this season, but they received some encouraging injury news regarding two important pieces of their future.

MLB.com’s Anne Rogers reported Tuesday that Jac Caglianone and Maikel Garcia are both making progress with their respective injuries.

“Jac Caglianone (flexor) is hitting pregame today. How he feels will determine his availability. Still shut down from throwing. Sounds like Maikel Garcia (hamstring) is progressing very well. Rehab assignment could be on the horizon if everything stays on track through this week.”

Caglianone has been dealing with different nagging injuries over the last several weeks, including ankle soreness before his latest elbow issue. The 23-year-old exited Saturday’s loss to Toronto after experiencing soreness in his left elbow. Fortunately, testing revealed the low-grade flexor strain, and Kansas City initially didn’t expect him to require an IL stint.

Garcia has been sidelined since suffering the injury in August. At this point in the season, Kansas City has absolutely no reason to rush him back.

The Royals entered September well outside the postseason picture, turning the remainder of the season into an opportunity to evaluate their roster for 2027. Caglianone and Garcia are going to be massive parts of those plans.

Caglianone remains one of the most exciting young power hitters in baseball, while Garcia has already established himself as an important piece of Kansas City’s core.

The 2026 season didn’t go according to plan for the Royals. But getting both players healthy before the offseason would at least provide some much-needed good news heading into 2027.
