Now that he is no longer the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mike Tomlin has a lot of time on his hands. It turns out that Tomlin is a big fan of the game Minecraft. In fact, he has been enjoying that classic game for a long time.

“Mike Tomlin revealed to (Today’s Craig Melvin) that he plays Minecraft and has been working on the same city for 12 years — and he’s thinking about sharing it with everyone,” The 33rd Team reported on X, formerly Twitter. “This might be the most unexpected Mike Tomlin fact ever.”

Tomlin revealed that fact on The Today Show on NBC. Minecraft is a video game that allows the player to explore a world of infinite terrain. Players can build structures, create tools, and interact with other players in a multiplayer setting.

“We’ve been talking recently about sharing it with the world,” Tomlin said. “My oldest son is like, ‘Dad, you gotta share this with the world. People need to see this city that you’ve been working on for 12 years.’ We’ve been talking about it recently about how am I gonna share it with the world.”

Tomlin stepped down as head coach of the Steelers following the 2025 season. He was head coach from 2007-2025. He won a Super Bowl in Pittsburgh, while leading the Steelers to two total Super Bowl appearances.

Now that he’s not coaching, Tomlin is not just building worlds on Minecraft. He is working in television broadcasting on the NBC show Football Night in America. Tomlin will work on the show for the 2026 season.

Former Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy replaced Tomlin as the Steelers head coach. McCarthy ironically defeated the Steelers and Tomlin in a Super Bowl, when he was with the Packers.

Pittsburgh opens their 2026 season with a game Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.
