Joe Burrow provides update on how he feels about his Bengals future

When Joe Burrow said it’s “now or never” for the Cincinnati Bengals to get over the hump and return to the Super Bowl, it understandably sent fans into a bit of a spiral.

Suddenly, the thought of the best quarterback Cincinnati has employed this century demanding his way out if things again go poorly for Zac Taylor’s squad became all the more real, and opposing fans began to wonder what kind of package it would take to bring the LSU legend to town to lead their franchise.

Sitting down with the Bengals’ website for an interview before Week 1, Burrow admitted that he might not have worded things the right way, noting that he has no plans to ask out of Cincinnati any time soon.

“I’m efficient with my words, and when I’m efficient with my words, that leaves some room for interpretation,” Burrow says via the Bengals website. “But I mean what I say. I’m here for the long haul. I’m not going anywhere. I’m just trying to bring a now-or-never mentality to the day-by-day process. If you’re not, what are you doing? Attack the day with a championship mindset. The rest will take care of itself.”

Burrow then took things a step further, noting that much like the Bengals’ initial owner, fellow Ohio State alum Paul Brown, he is proud to represent the city of Cincinnati.

“I’m just really proud to be quarterback of the Bengals,” Burrow says. “I’m happy to be here. I’m proud to represent the city of Cincinnati, the state of Ohio, the Brown family. I’m just proud, and I want to make everybody else proud, too.”

Now granted, the NFL season is long, and plenty can change between Week 1 and 17, but for now, Burrow appears happy to be a member of the Bengals, and fans should accept that, even if it’s unlikely he would say anything else to his team’s official website.
