Steelers rumors: Pittsburgh insider makes Joey Porter Jr. prediction amid ‘doom and gloom’

As the contract situation between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Joey Porter Jr. is ongoing, the fanbase is wondering when it will be resolved and if it will be resolved before Week 1 on Sept. 13 against the Atlanta Falcons. While a Porter return for the Steelers is on the table, especially after being activated off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, the contract dispute is in the way, as this team insider provides more insight.

Speaking on 93.7 The Fan, Pittsburgh insider Mark Kaboly said that both sides are “playing gloom and doom,” as he predicts that a resolution “will get done right now.” Kaboly would even predict that the Steelers are trying to call the “bluff” on Porter’s side.

“I think they’re playing gloom and doom on both sides right now,” Kaboly said. “I think that it will get done right now, I mean the Steelers are sitting back and just waiting and trying to probably call his bluff.”

With Porter also dealing with a back injury, he has missed all of training camp and the preseason and enters the final year of his rookie contract, as Kaboly mentions that “it does not benefit” the star to sit out.

“I still think something’s going to get done because it does not benefit Joey Porter Jr. to sit out,” Kaboly noted. “It does not benefit Joey Porter to play on a 4 million dollar salary this year and be franchised at $24 next year.”

It appears that the Steelers are ready to sign Porter when he’s ready, as Kaboly expressed that general manager Omar Khan “wants to always have some sort of bank account there.”

“Omar wants to always have some sort of a bank account there just in case Joey Porter comes tomorrow and says, ‘Hey, I want to sign for this,’” Kaboly said.

With the decision up to Porter, it seems like if he wants to sign or not before Week 1, it remains to be seen what the 26-year-old decides to do, as Pittsburgh is about to embark on a critical season.
