The Pittsburgh Steelers may have gained some traction on their quarterback situation heading into the next season, as Aaron Rodgers is expected to sign with the team over the weekend. There is no deal in place, but it looks like they’ll be getting their quarterback from last season for another year.

About a week ago, the Steelers placed a rare UFA tender on Rodgers, which allows him to accept a 10% raise from last season’s salary, which would pay him $15 million for the 2026 season.

Though Rodgers could just accept the tender, it seems like both sides will negotiate a new deal. It sounds easy, but Mike Flior believes that it may be a little more difficult than some think, and it starts with the money.

“Some have consistently downplayed the money angle,” Florio wrote. “If it wasn’t an issue, now would be the time for the reports to indicate that the two sides have an agreement as to the financial side of the arrangement. Absent such reporting, there’s no deal on money.”

Florio also brought up the report that the Steelers didn’t know that Rodgers was coming into town, which could lead to more speculation.

“There’s another wrinkle in all of this. Mark Kaboly, the Steelers correspondent for The Pat McAfee Show, reports that the Steelers were not aware that Rodgers will be coming to town. The truth could be that Rodgers has decided that it’s time to get in a room and hammer out whatever differences may remain as to the financial investment the Steelers are willing to make,” Florio wrote.

There could be more to this situation than meets the eye, but at the same time, things could go smoothly. It would be best for both sides to come to some sort of a resolution sooner rather than later.
