Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama makes blunt admission about Game 2 vs. Timberwolves

San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama has often mentioned that he sets high standards for himself. He is rarely satisfied, even if he has become one of the elite players in the Milky Way.

But on Wednesday, Wembanyama sounded pleased after the Spurs walloped the Minnesota Timberwolves, 133-95, in Game 2 of their second-round series in the playoffs at Frost Bank Center. San Antonio tied the best-of-seven affair.

Wembanyama had 19 points, 15 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. He lauded their desire to bounce back after getting upset in Game 1.

“I know this team is capable of doing all these. To be honest, I was expecting this kind of response from myself, from my teammates,” said the Defensive Player of the Year.2

“I’m not surprised by any means. I want to keep working. We’ll approach more games like we did today.”

The 22-year-old Wembanyama atoned for his subpar performance in Game 1, wherein he only had 11 points on 5-of-17 shooting, including 0-of-8 from beyond the arc. He did have 15 rebounds and 12 blocks.

He was aggressive from the onset in Game 2, setting the tone for the Spurs, who went on to score their most points in the playoffs since 1983.

San Antonio is almost impossible to beat when Wembanyama is dialed in, and he will have to continue being forceful against the physicality of the Timberwolves.

Stephon Castle had 21 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals, while De’Aaron Fox added 16 points and two steals.

The Spurs are looking to advance to the conference finals for the first time since 2017.

Game 3 shifts to Target Center on Friday.
