Spurs’ Dylan Harper makes ‘fire’ guarantee for NBA Finals Game 3
The San Antonio Spurs are squarely behind the eight ball heading into Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Monday night. The Spurs are down 0-2 to the New York Knicks after dropping both games at home in the Frost Bank Center last week, and will now need to win at least two games in Madison Square Garden to earn a championship this year.
Recently, Spurs rookie Dylan Harper broke down his mindset ahead of a must-win Game 3.
“Desperation. I think for me I feel like I’m at my best when I play with that type of desperation and I think that’s what’s kind of needed for this occasion. I feel like I’m going to go out there and no matter what the circumstances, I think if I’m not playing with that type of fire or grit, I’m doing a disservice to everyone,” said Harper, per Oh No He Didn’t on X, formerly Twitter.
“We have to go out there with a high level of execution,” he added, per NBA TV on X.
The Spurs will be playing in front of what figures to be an insanely hostile environment on Monday, with Knicks fans paying upward of $10,000 just to get into the building for Game 3 and watch their team participate in the NBA Finals for the first time this century.
Harper and the young Spurs have shown impressive poise so far in these playoffs, rallying from deficits each of the last two series, but they’ll need to dig even deeper to overcome dropping the first two games at home, which has historically been a death sentence for teams.
Game 3 is set to get underway on Monday at 8:30 pm ET in New York.
