Bad Bunny’s Halftime Show makes history with 7 Emmy wins

Bad Bunny just added another accomplishment to his already stellar resume.

The Puerto Rican rapper is now an Emmy winner after his 2026 Super Bowl performance walked away with seven trophies. “The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny” won: music direction, choreography, sound mixing, lighting design, technical direction/camerawork, and directing. He won as a performer and producer for his Super Bowl performance after the show set records with nine nominations.

The global icon brought out Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin during his performance but also displayed his love and admiration for Puerto Rico, support of local businesses, and a real-life wedding.

It is now the most-awarded Super Bowl halftime show in Emmy history, surpassing Kendrick Lamar’s 2022 Super Bowl performance, which won three.

Despite pushback of Bad Bunny being the 2026 Super Bowl halftime performer, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, defended the choice, adding that football fans’ backlash at the Super Bowl performer is common and “We’re confident it’s going to be a great show.”

“I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback or criticism,” Goodell continued. “And I think it’s going to be exciting and a united moment.”

Alongside Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl performance, the other nominees in the categories were: 83rd Annual Golden Globes (CBS), 68th Annual Grammy Awards (CBS), The Oscars (ABC) and 78th Annual Tony Awards (CBS).

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation is the official live music entertainment strategist for the NFL that manages the production of the show and artist selection, and shared why Bad Bunny was chosen to helm the show.

“What Benito has done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring. We are honored to have him on the world’s biggest stage,” Jay-Z said in a statement at the time.

While Bad Bunny has yet to publicly react to the Emmy news, he previously shared what it meant for him to grace the stage.

“What I’m feeling goes beyond myself. It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL,” he said in a statement following the announcement of his performance.

The Creative Arts Emmys are not broadcast or live-streamed, but highlights will air on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m. PT on FXX.

Mariska Hargitay — who won two Emmys for producing and directing My Mom Jayne: A Film by Mariska Hargitay — will host the Emmys live on NBC on Monday, Sept. 14, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT from the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live.
