Michael Irvin rallies behind 49ers owner Jed York following prostitution arrest
Michael Irvin is defending Jed York following his prostitution arrest last week.
York, who is the owner and CEO of the San Francisco 49ers, was arrested after responding to an advertisement on Sunday from a known prostitution website in Columbiana County, Ohio. The ad that York responded to offered an “arranged to have sexual activity with the female in exchange for $140.”
The Dallas Cowboys icon defended York when he made an appearance on N3on’s stream, saying that it’s not anyone’s business that he’s paying for sex.
“(York) got divorced like 5-6 months ago,” Irvin said, referencing his split from wife Danielle Belluomini York in May. “Is that really a crime? Let that man off. Leave that man alone. Imagine you’re going through a divorce and some young girl, some pretty girl, comes up to you, hitting on you, and she’s undercover … you don’t know. Everybody’s paying for it. You’re paying for it, regardless. Why do we gotta embarrass (York) over $140?”
Irvin went on to say that even when people aren’t paying sex workers, they are paying for it via dinner, presents, noting that relationships have that transactional element to them regardless of the specitivity.
Powerful: Michael Irvin defends 49ers owner Jed York for soliciting prostitution after his recent arrest.
"He got divorced 5-6 months ago so I’m like 'Man, come on. Is that really a crime?' Let that man go. Leave it alone… Everybody’s paying for it."

York was initially charged with prostitution, but the charge was amended down to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. The 49ers owner was also charged with possessing criminal tools after using his personal cell phone to contact an undercover officer to arrange the meetup with the sex worker. He has pleaded no contest to both charges and was sentenced to one day in jail. York was then ordered to pay $1,150 in court fines and forfeit the $160 in cash he carried at the time of his arrest.
He has served as CEO of the 49ers since 2008. While York is facing a potential suspension, the NFL has not punished him following his plea.
