What Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said about LSU’s historic beating

The Clemson football team’s 2026 season started with disaster on Saturday night. After waiting to start the game due to a lengthy delay, Clemson then went out to get bulldozed by the Tigers. LSU won the game, 51-10.

Following that beatdown, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney made a powerful, brutal statement.

“The best thing about that one is it’s over,” Swinney said, per FOX College Football.

LSU came out of the gate swinging. The Tigers scored 17 points in the first quarter, to build out a 31-3 halftime lead. Swinney was understandably frustrated by his team’s effort.

“We got our a***s kicked,” Swinney said, per ESPN.

Clemson’s loss was the largest margin of defeat in Swinney’s career, Bleacher Report posted to X. The Clemson team struggled to move the ball all day, and finished the contest with just 40 rushing yards.

LSU had a whopping 644 yards of offense. It was the debut of new LSU head coach Lane Kiffin, who made a powerful statement to open his tenure.
