Spike Lee chooses between Knicks championship or another Oscar

Would longtime New York Knicks superfan Spike Lee be willing to give up winning another Oscar in favor of them winning an NBA Finals and championship?

Appearing on CBS Mornings, Lee was given several hypotheticals. He had to choose between winning another Oscar and the Knicks winning the franchise’s first title since 1973. To date, he’s won a Student Academy Award, received an Academy Honorary Award, and won Best Adapted Screenplay for BlacKkKlansman.

When asked if he’d choose another Oscar win or a Knicks championship, he replied, “Is the pope Catholic?” He was asked to elaborate, revealing he meant a championship.

The other hypotheticals included having “lifetime” courtside seats at Madison Square Garden, which he was willing to do, having a street in Brooklyn named after him, and directing a movie with an “unlimited budget.”

Spike Lee went to the Knicks’ NBA Finals Game 1 win

Of course, Lee made his way to San Antonio to cheer on the Knicks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs. Other celebrity fans, like Timothée Chalamet and Ben Stiller, also made the trek.

Lee is one of the most notable Knicks celebrity fans. He has been going to games for years, usually sitting courtside, and that has continued during New York’s latest run.

Expect him to remain a constant at Knicks games as they try to beat the Spurs in the NBA Finals. They are currently leading the series 1-0, and Game 2 will be played on Friday, June 5. Games 3 and 4 will bring the series to New York on Monday, June 8, and Wednesday, June 10.

The Knicks won Game 1 by 10 points against the Spurs. After having more than a week off, New York find themselves down by double digits in the third quarter. Luckily, Jalen Brunson, who had been injured a couple of times earlier in the game, caught fire late, leading his team to a comeback. He ultimately made a few clutch shots at the end of the game to secure the win.
