Rob Gronkowski is conductor of Vikings’ Kyler Murray MVP train
With Minnesota Vikings star Kyler Murray winning the quarterback competition against J.J. McCarthy, the 29-year-old has a chance to show why he shouldn’t be counted out. As the Vikings prepare for Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 13, this former player is starting the hype train for Murray potentially being a Most Valuable Player (MVP) candidate.
Subsequently, speaking with Kay Adams on “Up And Adams,” she asked who his dark-horse candidate for MVP is, mentioning Murray saying that he is entering a “prove-it” season with Minnesota.
“It’s kind of a resurgence of his career. I mean, Kyler Murray has all the tools to be great. I mean, his athleticism, he’s got a great arm, but he’s in a situation now; it’s either he succeeds here, or the NFL moves on from him. With that saying, like he would be a backup for the next three, four, five years nd then out of the league,” Gronkowski said.
“This is kind of a prove-it season, and he couldn’t have been in a better situation to prove it this year,” Gronkowski continued. “I mean, you got Justin Jefferson, you got [T.J.] Hockenson at tight end, who’s elite. Jordan Addison is your second wide receiver. I mean, Kevin O’Connell as the head coach, who’s offensive-minded; Kyler Murray has the chance to shine and show what he’s all about here in Minnesota.”

Rob Gronkowski on Kyler Murray’s mindset with the Vikings
Murray is preparing for his first season with the Vikings after spending his first seven seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, where he was drafted with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Gronkowski would be asked if he buys into the narrative of Murray not being fully committed to the game.
“If he’s not all about the game of football, if he doesn’t love the game of football, well, the NFL sees that. The game of football sees that, the football gods see that, and it will spit you right out,” Gronkowski said.
It remains to be seen if Gronkowski’s prediction comes to light as Murray and Minnesota prepare for Sunday, Sept. 13.
