Skip Bayless calls out ‘outrageously wrong situation’ concerning Browns’ Shedeur Sanders

Skip Bayless continues to be highly critical of the Cleveland Browns’ treatment of Shedeur Sanders ahead of the 2026 season.

Sanders is gearing up for the second season of his NFL career as a fifth-round selection. He started in several games as a rookie, showing flashes of his potential in the league.

However, the Browns remain committed to their direction of having Deshaun Watson as the starter. This puts Sanders as the backup quarterback, presenting questions about his time with the franchise. Bayless didn’t waste time discussing his thoughts on Cleveland’s actions regarding the young quarterback.

“I have never encountered a situation more agonizing, more tormenting, more mind-blowing, more wrong than what has happened to Shedeur Sanders? I hurt for Shedeur Sanders. I hurt for his father Deion, whom I know well, because Shedeur Sanders is now stuck with the Cleveland Browns, one of the worst teams in the National Football League, and he is relegated now to splitting scout team reps with rookie Taylen Green,” Bayless said.

“Shedeur is stuck on a franchise that now I believe ranks him the fourth best quarterback in their building because they have now stashed Dillon Gabriel, former third-round pick, in Shedeur’s draft. He’d already gone to the third when they took Shedeur as a complete afterthought, as a sideshow to take some of the focus off what a mess Jimmy Haslam has made in this franchise that took Shedeur in the fifth.”

What’s next for Shedeur Sanders amid Browns situation

Shedeur Sanders still has a lot of time in the league. What matters is he remains ready for his next opportunity on the Browns or another team in the future.

The Browns will attempt to improve on their 5-12 record from 2025. They also intend to return to the playoffs after a two-year absence, and end their 33-season division title drought, having last won the then-AFC Central in 1989.

Cleveland will have the first two games of its 2026 campaign start on the road. They take on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. ET before facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. ET.
