Sergio Garcia suffers through brutal Masters final round after breaking driver in fit of rage

Sergio Garcia is no longer in the prime of his career, but the former Masters champion is still capable of bringing back some of the great memories from his 2017 victory at Augusta National each year.

Garcia did some of that early in the week at the 2026 Masters Tournament, doing just enough to make the cut and stick around for the weekend. However, after a 2-over 74 on Saturday, Garcia got off to a very poor start to his final round.

After making a bogey on the difficult first hole, Garcia drove it in the bunker on the par-5 second. Clearly disgusted with the errant tee shot, Garcia took out his anger on the tee box before breaking his driver head on the tee marker next to him.

Garcia couldn’t replace the clubs that he started the day with, so he was forced to play the rest of his round without a driver. At a course as difficult as Augusta National, it was understandably difficult for Garcia to play without the longest club in his bag. However, he still managed to fire a 3-over 75 to finish the tournament at 8-over par.

Garcia won his green jacket back in 2017 in a playoff over Justin Rose, who is in contention to win his first Masters on Sunday after finishing as the runner-up three times.

Everyone is looking up at Rory McIlroy and Cam Young heading into Sunday, both of whom took very different paths to the top of the leaderboard at 11-under par through 54 holes. McIlroy had a six-shot lead after Friday’s second round at 12-under, but a stunning round of 73 on Saturday allowed the rest of the field to catch up.

Young, on the other hand, started 4-over par through the first seven holes on Thursday before catching fire to make up all of that ground and earn a spot in the final pairing.

Garcia’s outburst is a prime example of the frustration that Augusta National can cause, and the leaders will be hoping to avoid that at all costs during the final round.
