Sergio Garcia skirts question on Masters Sunday temper tantrum
Sunday at The Masters is well underway, but for some previous champions, the day is already over. Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm finished toward the back of the pack among those who made the Masters cut. After a poor drive on the par-five second hole, Garcia smashed his driver and eventually carried Rahm’s bag up the fairway. He was asked about his temper tantrum after the round, but did not answer any questions.
“Next question, please.”

“Obviously not super proud of it, but sometimes it happens,” Garcia said. On the 4th hole, the Chairman of the Competition Committee approached Garcia and spoke to him. When asked about that interaction, the 2017 champ said, “I’m not going to tell you.” When asked again, he said, “Next question, please.
Garcia was then asked about playing the final 16 holes without a driver, “It makes it very easy. You know, just have to hit three wood all the time. Didn’t have to choose another club.”
Garcia won the Masters in 2017, the only major championship win of his lengthy career. Since then, he has never finished in the top 20 at Augusta National and missed the cut six times in eight tries. He did not give any color as to why, just saying. “Bad golf. Bad shots,” when asked about his recent record.
This is not the only potential disciplinary action coming from this Masters. Robert MacIntyre is reportedly facing discipline after extending the middle finger at the water hazard on the 15th hole. MacIntyre found the water twice on his way to a nine on 15 and an opening round 80.
Cameron Young has taken the solo lead at the Masters after a Rory McIlroy double bogey. McIlroy is looking for his second consecutive Green Jacket, while Young vies for his first major.
