Senators’ Ridly Greig could be suspended to start next season for sucker-punching Sean Walker

The Ottawa Senators’ season has come to an end after losing Game 4 to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes swept the Senaotrs, winning all four tightly contested and physical matchups.

The physicality between the two came to a head in Game 4, as Ridly Grieg was involved in two different altercations, including a cheap shot punch in the second period. The punch could lead to further discipline, according to Chris Johnston of The Athletic.

“Ridly Greig will have a hearing with (NHL Player Safety) for his sucker punch on Sean Walker yesterday. Any suspension will carry over to next season with the (Senators) already eliminated,” Johnston posted on X, formerly Twitter.

The first incident with Greig was in the first period. He was posted in front of the Hurricanes’ net and was pushed into Carolina netminder Frederick Andersen. The scrum ensued after Greig made contact with the Hurricanes’ goalie, and Greig would be called for goaltender interference.

The animosity for the hit on the goaltender carried over for the rest of the game. During the second period, another scuffle took place, with both Greg and Warren Foegele getting tied up with Sean Walker of the Hurricanes. Foefele got Walker in a headlock as Greig disengaged. He then came back and delivered an uppercut shot to Walker, hitting Walker in the face.

It was a dirty shot that Greig got away with on the ice. If he is suspended for the hit, it will be at the start of the 2026-27 campaign. He could also be fined for the incident. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes await the winner of the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins series.
