Sabres’ Mattias Samuelsson outlines ‘coolest moment’ after scoring game-winning playoff goal
The Buffalo Sabres hosted their first playoff game in 14 years on Sunday. They took on the Boston Bruins, and it felt as if the first game would go the visitors’ way. However, Tage Thompson led a massive comeback to tie the game. And Mattias Samuelsson gave the home fans exactly what they were hoping for.
The Sabres had the puck in the offensive zone with about three and a half minutes remaining. Samuelsson received a pass in the high slot. He ripped a wide-open look, beating Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman. The Sabres took a 3-2 lead at the time, and they went on to claim a 4-3 win on home ice.

After the game, Samuelsson spoke with MSG Network. He spoke about the crowd and energy in the KeyBank Center. During this interview, he revealed what he considered to be the ‘coolest moment’ of his career so far.
“It was unbelievable. We go out for warmups, and (the building) is basically full. Opening puck drop, had chills. I was worried I would fall over I was so anxious,” the Sabres defenseman said in a clip of the interview shared by Buffalo Hockey Moments on social media. “I said to (Logan Stanley) that (the game-winning goal) may have been the coolest moment of my life. So loud, couldn’t hear myself think.”
The Sabres have a ton of momentum heading into Game 2 on Tuesday night. Buffalo can gain a stranglehold on this series with a win on Tuesday. It certainly won’t be easy, and Game 2 will certainly be energetic when the teams retake the ice.
