Reggie Jackson worries about Yankees’ 2026 World Series chances

The New York Yankees have been playing well over the last week, currently winners of four straight games after a blowout victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday. The Yankees now sit with a solid record of 34-22 on the season, once again in great position to make the playoff field in the AL this year.

Still, not everyone is so convinced about New York’s ability to finally break through and end their nearly two-decade World Series title drought, including former Yankees player Reggie Jackson.

“I always worry whether they are well rounded enough. I look and see that the pitching is there, and the offense is always there. But I don’t know if they have enough. I really don’t look at what they are doing now. I look at how they are going to do from Game 120. Everybody is going to lose 50, and everybody is going to win 50. It’s what you do with the last 42,” said Jackson, per Bill Ladson of MLB.com.

Indeed, the MLB champion often comes down to who is playing their best baseball at the end of the year. Every season, at least two or three teams get off to hot starts, taper off down the stretch, and crash and burn in the postseason, and the Yankees are hoping to avoid that fate in 2026.

One thing working in the Yankees’ favor this year is the general lack of elite teams in the AL, especially when compared to several of the tight races that figure to go down to the wire in the NL.

New York will hope to take advantage of that lack of premier competition and reach their second World Series in three years this October.
