Real Madrid shares official statement on Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni fight
With the heated El Clásico rivalry coming up on May. 11, 2026, fans were expecting the Spanish giants Real Madrid and FC Barcelona to clash. However, days before their storied rivalry, things inside the Real Madrid locker room got heated.
The club’s elimination from the Champions League and its 11-point deficit behind Barcelona with only four La Liga matches remaining have led to rising tensions internally. The squad’s manager, Alvaro Arbeloa, appears to have lost control over the squad.
With over 40 million fans signing petitions to remove Kylian Mbappé from the club and several players not being on speaking terms with Arbeloa, Real Madrid stars Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni recently got into a fight.
Earlier this week, it was claimed that Valverde and Tchouaméni nearly came to blows during training. The next day, things reached a new level when the Uruguayan midfielder refused to shake Tchouaméni’s hand and then later tripped the Frenchman during training. Arbeloa later tried to diffuse the tension by placing them together in the same training team, although nothing improved.
The pair got into a scuffle later on in the locker room. A fight broke out, and other players stepped in to separate the two individuals. It was then reported that Valverde fell during the physical scuffle, hit and cut his head, and lost consciousness. He was then taken to the hospital with Arbeloa with him.

What does Real Madrid have to say about the fight?
Shortly after the entire situation became public and a talking point, Real Madrid shared an official club statement and announced punishment for both players. “Real Madrid C. F. announces that, following the incidents that occurred this morning during the first team’s training session, it has decided to open disciplinary proceedings against our players Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouameni. The club will provide updates on the resolutions of both proceedings once the corresponding internal procedures have been completed,” the statement read.
Amid the rivalry between Real Madrid’s own players, Madrid and Barcelona’s star players Jude Bellingham and Lamine Yamal were recently spotted sharing the screen together in Adidas X FIFA’s new ad campaign.
