Rams’ Myles Garrett opens up about Aaron Donald return from retirement rumors

Earlier in the week, the Los Angeles Rams pulled off a blockbuster trade, acquiring Myles Garrett, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, from the Cleveland Browns in return for Jared Verse along with a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick.

The Rams, who were already Super Bowl contenders, are now easily the prohibitive favorites to be the final team standing next February. And speaking of the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, former Ram Aaron Donald achieved that feat three times in his 10-year career, which was spent entirely in Los Angeles.

He retired in 2023, but there have been rumors about him mulling a potential return to the field. According to Garrett, while he’s not yet spoken with Donald, he plans on doing so soon.

“We haven’t talked yet, but definitely expect to talk soon. I don’t know what his plans are and I won’t pretend to know, but a lot of people are excited and thrilled about the possibility of him coming back,” Garrett said via NBC Sports.

Donald’s career spanned from 2014 to 2023, and during that time, he amassed 543 total tackles (340 solo), 111.0 sacks, 176 tackles for loss, 24 forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries. He was recognized three times as the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year, and also earned the 2014 Defensive Rookie of the Year award. Additionally, Donald earned 10 Pro Bowl and eight First-Team All-Pro selections.

If he were to seriously consider coming back to join forces with Garrett, the Rams would only see their Super Bowl odds increase.
