Power 4 DC hits Cardinals’ Carson Beck pick with pedestrian truth bomb

The Arizona Cardinals took former Miami and Georgia quarterback Carson Beck in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Beck will get a chance to battle for the starting job in training camp, but one college football defensive coordinator suggests that Cardinals fans shouldn’t get their hopes too high.

“I think what you see is what you get,” a Power 4 defensive coordinator told ESPN. “I think he’ll be solid. I don’t think he’ll be special. Whether it’s poise or accuracy at key moments, he just seems to have too many misses. But he’s a good, solid player.”

The QB will now battle Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II for snaps in the desert. Those two veterans are known commodities, and while neither is a bad signal-caller, they’ve both proven to be underwhelming starters. However, it seems like the Power 4 DC sees Beck the same way.

What may separate Beck from NFL journeymen like Brissett and Minshew is his ability to win games. Sure, it’s not always pretty, but it’s hard to argue with the record. Beck was 13-1 as a starter in 2023, which included a 63-3 beatdown of Florida State in the Orange Bowl. In 2024, he went 11-2 and won an SEC championship before suffering an elbow injury. Then, after transferring to Miami in 2025, he went 13-3, leading the Hurricanes to the national championship game.

So, after a 37-6 college career, Carson Beck enters the NFL with some question marks but also with some promise. In Arizona, he may have the best path to playing time of any rookie QB from the 2026 NFL Draft, and once Beck gets under center, wins tend to follow. And we all know, in the NFL, sometimes being “solid” is good enough to win games.
