Heat’s Bam Adebayo shuts down spacing concerns after Giannis Antetokounmpo trade

With the Miami Heat now led by Bam Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo after the blockbuster trade for the latter, made official earlier last month, there have been holes to fill on the roster. As the Heat have desires to add certain players to the team, Adebayo would speak about the franchise’s needs ahead of the upcoming season.

Speaking Sunday after receiving the 2026 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Award trophy at SLAM Charter School in Miami, he would speak about the narrative of the team needing more shooting on the team. Adebayo would downplay it to the point of saying that the team has “done a lot more with less.”

“We’ll figure it out… we’ve done a lot more with less in our past years before; we’ll figure it out,” Adebayo said, via Heat Central on X, formerly Twitter.

Heat’s top target in offseason after trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo

There’s no denying that the Heat are known for exceeding expectations in the past with squads that many believe are not up to par, though it’s also true that after making the trade for the superstar in Antetokounmpo, spacing is needed. According to Shams Charania of ESPN, Miami’s No. 1 priority right now is shooting, with the top target being Klay Thompson.

“They found their number 1 target. That’s Klay Thompson. The problem is Klay has 1 year left on his contract, so they’re exploring whether they can trade for him, or whether this could end up in a buyout. We’ll see over the next several weeks,” Charania said last Tuesday.

Thompson has shot 39.1 percent and 38.3 percent from the three-point range in the two seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, with whom he is still under contract, as the Heat await whether the team buys him out. At any rate, it remains to be seen how Miami further rounds out its roster.
