The 2nd-year standout shining in training camp for Seahawks offense

Energy levels are increasing for the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Especially following the Seahawks’ first full padded practice to close out July. Now a second-year ‘Hawks player is impressing coach Mike Macdonald and building new cohesion with quarterback Sam Darnold.

Tight end Elijah Arroyo is turning heads according to Seahawks insider for ESPN Brady Henderson.

“Arguably no Seahawks player has stood out in any of the first seven practices of camp as much as Elijah Arroyo did Saturday. The second-year tight end was the clear star on a good day for the offense,” Henderson began.

Arroyo showed the high concentration that turned him into a day two NFL Draft pick out of Miami, per Henderson.

“It started in a red zone one-on-one period. When he caught touchdown passes on a high-point fade and a toe-tapper in the back of the end zone,” Henderson wrote.

But that wasn’t Arroyo’s only highlight.

“In the subsequent team period, Sam Darnold hit a wide-open Arroyo down the field for another score,” the insider added. “It was a strong follow-up to Arroyo’s performance Friday. Which was highlighted by a long reception on a deep throw from QB3 Jalen Milroe.”

Seattle will need to lean into this version of Arroyo down the road. He flashed his potential with grabbing 15 catches for 179 yards and scored once. He’s capable of forcing a fierce tandem with starting tight end AJ Barner, especially when the champs want to go 12 personnel on defenses.

The Seahawks also are adjusting to new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury, who replaced Klint Kubiak after he accepted the Las Vegas Raiders head coach job.
