Pirates lose Oneil Cruz to IL before Dodgers game

Pittsburgh Pirates star Oneil Cruz was scratched from Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to an injury concern. On Wednesday, Cruz was placed on the 10-day injured list, the team announced.

“ROSTER MOVES: Today we placed OF Oneil Cruz on the 10-day injured list (left hand fourth and fifth metacarpal non-displaced fractures), retroactive to Monday (June 8), and recalled OF Billy Cook from Triple-A Indianapolis,” the Pirates announced.

It goes without saying, but the Pirates were dealt a difficult blow with the Cruz injury. The team has been able to compete at a respectable level this year, and Cruz has played a crucial role in their success. The 27-year-old has hit .264/.350/.472 so far this season. He also has 14 home runs and 21 stolen bases.

Overall, the Pirates hold a 34-33 record heading into the game on Wednesday night. Defeating the Dodgers even with Cruz would be a challenge, but trying to accomplish the feat without him will be especially difficult. The Dodgers’ 43-24 record is the second best mark in all of baseball, trailing only the Atlanta Braves.

Nevertheless, the Pirates will do everything they can to get the job done. They are looking to get back on track after losing to Los Angeles 12-3 on Tuesday.

First pitch for the contest on Wednesday night is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST as the Pirates look to jump back into the win column. As for Oneil Cruz, updates on the Pirates star’s injury status will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available.
