Why Garrett Wilson thinks the Jets are a ‘very realistic’ playoff contender

With the New York Jets getting ready for the 2026 NFL season, there is no denying that many people in the sports world are down on the team heading into head coach Aaron Glenn’s second season with the franchise. As the Jets get ready for Week 1 on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, wide receiver Garrett Wilson would get real on the team’s playoff chances.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, he was asked about the playoffs, which New York hasn’t played in since the 2010 season, when they went all the way to the AFC Championship game under head coach Rex Ryan. For Wilson, the team making the postseason this year is very much in the cards, according to SNY Jets.

“Very realistic. Very realistic,” Wilson said twice when asked if New York making the playoffs is realistic. “I mean, I think it should happen. I’ll say that. So it’s our job to go play ball and do it, you know. But that’s how I feel about it.”

While many people in the sports world will challenge Wilson’s thoughts on the matter, there’s no denying the motivation the 26-year-old receiver has coming out of a frustrating last season. Personally, he played only seven games due to injuries in 2025, snapping a three-year streak of seasons over 1,000 receiving yards; his quarterback now will be Geno Smith, the veteran who returns to the Jets after starting with the franchise from 2013 to 2016.

At any rate, it remains to be seen if New York will make the playoffs, as the team looks to improve after finishing with a 3-14 record last season.
