How Oregon’s Dante Moore can stand out in loaded 2027 NFL Draft class

The No. 6 Oregon Ducks escaped Week 1 with a close-call 34-27 win over the Boise State Broncos. While it was a closer contest than the Ducks probably would have liked, it was still a strong showing from Dante Moore. His spectacular performance was another example why he should be one of the top quarterbacks taken in the 2027 NFL Draft class, but what can he do to stand out amongst the crowd?

During a guest appearance on “Football 301,” NFL Draft analyst Dane Brugler of The Athletic and Nate Trice of Yahoo! Sports, agree that continuing to add weight would be largely beneficial for the Ducks’ redshirt senior. They both would like to see Moore clean up his work from the pocket, but overall, getting bigger should help the Oregon star rise up draft boards.

“The thing that helped me from like, really just going, ‘Okay, this guy can ascend,’ one, he already gained weight, which is good” Trice said. “That was one thing I wanted to see. Was [Moore] gain weight and strength, because I thought in the pocket he can get a little scrunched up as it kinda got mucky on him…

“I’m glad you mentioned the size,” Brugler responded. “That’s something that worried me last [year]. He looked like he was what? 205 [lbs] last year? He just looked small in the pocket. This year, I was talking to a scout a few weeks ago, he said [Moore is] up to 215 and he wants to be around 218 as his normal playing weight, and that’s a big difference.”

Dante Moore finished Week 1 with 378 passing yards and three touchdowns while completing 28 of his 37 attempts, giving him a 75.6% completion percentage. That’s the type of outing that will catch the attention of NFL scouts, especially if he can maintain that level of play throughout this season.

Oregon’s star quarterback will have another opportunity to rise NFL Draft boards in Week 2. The Ducks are scheduled to face off against the Oklahoma State Cowboys for the first road game of the campaign.
